Hanging Gardens of the Circle Line
01.06.10

The RIBA Forgotten Spaces regional competition attracted around 125 proposals for under-used sites in London. Among the commended entries was "Hanging Gardens of the Circle Line" by Chris Hildrey of Jestico + Whiles. Chris proposed sub-tropical gardens above seven defunct ventilation shafts along the length of the Circle Line, supported by lightweight tensile structures and using excess heat from the Tube system to create a suitable microclimate. Forgotten Spaces was organised by RIBA London with Design for London and developer and investor Qatari Diar. See the exhibition at The Lyttelton Foyer, National Theatre, Southbank, SE1 9PX 24 May–4 July 2010
