Named after the founder of the Open University, this innovative low energy building completed in Autumn 2001 aims to break the paradigm of current University working practices.
Designed to encourage serendipitous meeting and to reduce energy consumption in an advanced contemporary environment the building a BREEAM rating of Excellent and provides naturally ventilated and lit workspace which allows individual occupant control.
Rainwater is collected and stored to provide water for low flush toilets and the use of externally insulated render combined with airtight construction techniques ensure minimal heat loss through the fabric.
