Title: Manor House Gardens

Location: London, UK

Description: Commendation - Civic Trust Awards 2002

The Manor House Gardens were originally an 18th Century landscaped garden before falling into disarray. As part of a successful Heritage Lottery bid this derelict building has been completely rebuilt to create a focus for activities within the restored urban park.

The design used traditional materials and construction techniques to create an exterior in keeping with the original structure. A new handmade clay tile roof with sprocketted eaves supported by a steel collared roof provides a sense of shelter, with daylight introduced via ridge lights. Internally, this delicacy is contrasted against more rustic materials such as lime rendered walls, riven slate floors and solid oak windows frames and structure.
