Client: London Underground Ltd
Title: West Ham Tube Station
Location: London, UK
Description: The District Line was served by Victorian platforms and canopies and fell short of London Underground’s standards. A new station and concourse had been constructed as part of the Jubilee Line Extension and consequently there was a need to enhance facilities for District Line passengers.
The project involves new platforms, canopies, lift and staircase and services. The isolated nature of the site made construction access difficult and as a result, a high degree of prefabrication has been necessary to ensure safety, quality and operational requirements are not compromised.
The canopy comprises pre-cast concrete cantilever beams on an axial spine beam running the length of the platform, with lightweight glass and aluminium infill components.
