Title: Equitable House
Location: London, UK
Description: Highly Commended -Copper in Architecture Award 1999
Combined architecture and interior commissions allowed a holistic approach to this 65,000ft² office building in the heart of the city.
Located next to the Monument the external elevations are cool and self-effacing, materials are solid and minimal. The roof is curved traditional copper and does not distract from views at the top of the Monument.
In contrast to the calm exterior, the common spaces - entrance hall, lobbies, lifts and bathrooms have been developed to exude a sense of exuberance and fun not usually found in a typical ‘City’ building.
Timber panelling and marble cladding were eschewed in favour of Italian polished plaster in saturated sun-burst yellow and white, curvilinear ceiling lit by concealed cold cathode and ribbed stainless steel and aluminium doors.
