Burrells Wharf, where Brunel built the Great Eastern, is the only listed group of historic industrial buildings on the Isle of Dogs.
Jestico + Whiles’ competition winning project provides shops, workspace, leisure facilities and 360 new homes around interlinked public squares which integrate new and historic buildings. The 360-unit development incorporates a variety of ancillary facilities including a swimming pool and health club. These hard surfaced spaces give the neighbourhood a relaxed urban quality more usually associated with continental cities.
The muscular industrial language of the historic buildings has been reinterpreted in every detail from street furniture to ironmongery.
