Title: Glen Eyre Halls of Residence

Description: Jestico + Whiles’ proposals for the University of Southampton will regenerate the heart of the University’s principal residential campus. The scheme centres on the refurbishment, extension and re-planning of three existing blocks. The new wings enclose the courtyards, creating sheltered quadrangles, providing a focus and identity for undergraduate social activities.
The design embodies a sustainable approach. The insulated-render cladding and new double-glazed windows reduce the heating demand beyond regulation requirements. Energy will be produced from a Combined Heat and Power plant. Solar panels will be prominently sited on the roofs of dramatic steel-mesh link bridges which over-sail and denote the entrances.
