Title: The Winding, Paddington Basin
Location: London, UK
Description: One of the major themes underpinning the regeneration of the north bank to Paddington Basin in Central London is the creation of interesting and lively public spaces that make a positive contribution to the neighbourhood.
The focus of The Winding scheme, indeed the derivation its name, is the new winding ‘hole’, a wide area in a canal used for turning boats. The high-density residentially–led mixed-use scheme proposes 222 apartments together with basement parking, a large health club, and prime retail units set along the water’s edge. The design comprises two distinctive elements - a 14-storey building clad in Portland stone and glass, and an elegant 23-storey tower clad in copper panels and glass which rises out of the canal basin itself.
