Description: Prefabrication construction has stepped beyond being an interest to being a requirement of Governments to solve the pressure of the growing demand for housing.
This competition-winning scheme for 200 apartments and 10,000m2 of office and retail space, in Manchester, will benefit from having, electricity, heating and solar-shading provided within the special prefabricated wall cladding panels. Residents will be able to install standardised internal partition and door units stored on site, at will, allowing their home layouts to be tailored to individual needs. This enables flexibility without disrupting the construction programme.
The commercial building is based on similar construction principles but benefits from having mesh over its South-facing glazed elevation to provide both solar shading and a screen for potential advertising, whilst still permitting views of the street from within.
