“Malmaison Hotels are contemporary places which manage to evoke a beautiful age through the use of wonderful colour and texture.” FX Interiors Magazine
Whilst previous Malmaison Hotels have always been set in old characterful buildings, this 189 room hotel is the first to occupy a contemporary building, a former 1960s Royal Mail sorting office, which is at the centre of Birmingham’s Mail Box complex, a new retail and residential quarter in the heart of the City.
The intimate reception and spa areas at ground floor are linked to wonderful double height space of the bar and brasserie at first floor by a beautiful grand elliptical, stone staircase that is a contemporary interpretation of the traditional main stairs found in French Chateaux.
The hotel is conceived as an urban oasis, providing a restful haven within the busy city centre. Rich details of velvet cushions and wall hangings, vivid rugs, leather furniture and wood paneling all contribute to the calmness, enhanced by the crisp elegance of coloured glass, polished chrome and limestone.
The hotel opened to great acclaim in 2004.
