Description: Jestico + Whiles’s foyer in Barking provides 116 bedsits for disadvantaged young people. Foyers tackle social exclusion among vulnerable 16 to 25-year-olds through housing and training programmes that transform their lives.
The welcoming double-height entrance lobby leads to the residential floors as well as the ancillary training, management and youth agency offices that occupy the lower floors. A striking abstract composition of vertical panels animates the façade, masking the repetitive nature of the bedsits beyond.
