Title: Worship Street

Location: London, UK

Description: This development for the Cripplegate Foundation on, and behind, Worship Street in Hoxton involved the creation of contemporary office spaces which could be let in separate units or to a single tenant, if required.

The new reception building linking the courtyard offices is enclosed by frameless glazing at ground level and with Kalwall panels above. This allows the south-west light to illuminate the reception space while avoiding excessive heat gain and screens unwanted views to and from the neighbouring properties.

Once inside, the double height of the reception becomes apparent. The staircase to the upper level leads past the blue glass corner window allowing a glimpse back down the lane towards Worship Street. Three circular skylights maintain the high levels of natural light at the upper level of the reception. From here framed views, through the other coloured window in the translucent Kalwall screen, intensify the perception of the haphazard context and changing effects of direct sunlight entering the space through the course of the afternoon.
