Practice Half Day
For one morning each month, Jestico + Whiles operate a monthly Practice Half Day, when the whole office takes time off real work to participate in extra-curricular activities, followed by a practice lunch.
The sessions, organised by the senior architects, are geared towards providing training and inspiration and sharing knowledge among staff. Events so far have included learning from other designers, painting and working with colour, sketching at the British Museum, model making, film making, site visits and core skills. This policy helps people to think and communicate differently and, say the Directors, '...keeps ideas and creativity growing so that the practice remains fresh and innovative'.
Lights, Camera, Action
For July’s Practice Half Day the staff were challenged by the Directors to make a 3 minute film featuring a Jestico + Whiles project. Each team had to collectively write the script, act, direct, edit etc. All films were filmed on an iPhone.
The films produced included a Hitchcock-esque film trailer, a BBC news report about a pink rabbit terrorising the neighbourhood and a Southpark inspired animation.
